HECTOR'S DEBUT ARTIST PROGRAM
The Hector Fund is making good on its promise of fair trade Artistfunding by creating the Debut Artist Program to provide microfinancing to musicians from around the world. Think of our Debut Artist Program as a Kiva.org for musicians. By joining one of our Debut Artist Campaigns you’re changing the way the world finances music and supporting economic development in music capitals around the globe.

Fan contributions are in micro amounts of $10 - $20. You, the fan provide microfunding for musicians from one of the unlikely music capitals of the world - the townships of Capetown, South Africa, say, or the favelas in Salvador. You receive a copy of their music - a new and completely unique recording that you helped to create. A recording that wouldn’t exist without your assistance. Change the lives of our Debut Artists. This is the New Music Industry. This is 2009. This is The Hector Fund.

FEATURED DEBUT ARTIST

La Otrabanda

La Otrabanda
Hometown: Cabudare, Venezuela
Artistfunding Amount: $1000
Funding Supports: Production Of Music Video To Market La Otrabanda Album

We grew up in a part of the world where there are two things that keep you from sleeping until late in the mornings: the roosters and the omnipresent melodies usually coming from all directions, even in the early morning hours. It’s this music that provides some relief from the tough and unpleasant routine of poverty. Music provides respite: at least everyone has the power to choose the radio station they hear during lunch, even when for some people their plate of food looks the same every day.

Funding Supports: New Studio Recording
Music is made to be shared. We adore performing live because there’s nothing like that amazing short brush with eternity one feels when making music for people in front of you. Music has the power of bringing people together. Perhaps the best thing about this particular independent recording project is that there is no middle person, no broker, no record label and NO COMPROMISE! Instead, it’s a simple and direct transaction between the artists and the people who love their work. Alex Alvear

The Hector Letter: I Remember The Time

Hector has a love/hate relationship with The Lefsetz Letter…so he manages this internal conflict by offering this, The Hector Letter. As Bob himself might say, “Because it’s RELEVANT”. I remember the time when the best things in life were my Technics 1200, a huge pair of cans, and a thick slice of vinyl called THRILLER. That's when cans were headphones, and the curly wire bound me to the turntable while it simultaneously set me free.

The Hector Hook Up: Linda Thompson Fan Invterview Part 3

Alex Alvear Featured On NPR Latino

NPR Latino reports on how Ecuadorian-born artist, Alex Alvear maxed out his credit card the last time his Boston-based band, Mango Blue, produced a CD. This time, instead of using high interest credit cards, the band is turning to their fans and using a new approach based on the "micro-lending" model of financing.

The Hector Letter

Today’s industry is a sham. Artists make music that nobody claims they want to hear, and the folks that people do listen to suck. Driving down Blue Hill Ave, I pop a tape into my deck and prepare to be amazed. My pal Kato over at Fenway sent it to me. He knows what’s up. He manages MGMT - one of the biggest acts in the world right now
