About Me:
Marcus Santos is a Brazilian-born percussionist who is making radical changes to the world of music and the concept of entertainment as we know it.

By bringing the authentic and earthy roots of Afro-Brazilian hand drumming to the modern and sometimes futuristic atmosphere of today's social scene, Marcus is developing a new genre of nightlife all his own.

Marcus Santos is a contemporary percussionist who plays Afro-Brazilian rhythms in America's northeast and in Brazil. Marcus' professional experience includes television and radio
performances on NBC TV, TV Globo in Brazil and Kiss 108FM in Boston, MA. Marcus was also Percussion Director for a Flamenco drama/dance performance that aired on national television in Brazil and has shared the stage with the Gipsy Kings, Paquito DíRiveira, Mambolada and Jheremmias.

Marcus plays regularly in Boston's premier nighttime hot spots, including Venu, Gypsy (fka Pravda), Mantra, Saint, Felt, Rumor, LaBoom, Matrix, and the Buddha Bar in Mexico. He has also performed at Boston's Avalon Nightclub, the World Percussion Festival at Berklee College of Music, the World Festival at the Boston Conservatory, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Florida.

Other credits include the recording of a soundtrack for the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival nominee movie, "Cafe and Tobacco", and the recording of the Mambolada's CD, "Larica Maria", which sold more than 100,000 copies in Brazil alone. Santos has taught in Brazil at Studio Art & Music and the Shubert Conservatory of Music. He currently teaches at the Brazilian Cultural Center of New England and gives private lessons to individual students. As a musician, performer and instructor, Marcus Santos has received many awards of recognition from different institutions around the world. In Brazil, Santos received the Best Musician and Best Band as well as the Best Band Arrangement Award from Colegio Anchieta's Music Competition. In the United States, Santos received the Outstanding Percussionist Award and Community Service Throw Music Award from Berklee College of Music.

Marcus was born in Bahia, Brazil where he was surrounded and greatly influenced by the region's Afro-Brazilian rhythms. He felt a unique connection with the music's history and sound. Motivated by the music's effect on the audience, Santos started learning percussion by attending concerts and listening to CDs. His passion led him to Universidade Federal da Bahia and to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

HOW DOES MICROFUNDO WORK?

Choose a Musician's Campaign, Lend, Get Repaid

1. Music Fans like you can browse Campaigns of Musicians and choose an artist to lend to. When you lend, using Paypal or your credit card, Microfundo collects the funds and then passes them along to the artist once they've reached their goal.

2. Over time the artist is able to repay the loan via sales of digital downloads of their music that is distributed through Microfundo's media partners at Natonal Geographic and Mondomix.

3. When you get your money back you can re-lend to another artist Campaign or choose to purchase their artists' new releases or you can simply keep your money.

You, the fan, provide microfunding for musicians from one of the unlikely music capitals of the world - the townships of Capetown, South Africa, say, or the favelas in Salvador, Brazil. You are directly engaged in their creative process - making new and completely unique recordings that wouldn't exist without your assistance.

Change the lives of our Artists and help develop a thriving music economy around the globe.
