Tour Guides:Bárbara Ortiz and Rachel Werkman are accomplished and experienced samba dancers with Boston’s own Samba Tremeterra. Rachel travels annually to Brazil, on one occasion spending six months in Rio, and has experienced six Carnavals in Rio de Janeiro. She speaks fluent Portuguese. Bárbara has also visited Rio several times and has tight connections to the Mangueira Samba School, one of the most beloved schools in Rio.

Tour Dates:The dance portion of the Rio Samba Dance Tour will run from February 14 - 19, 2009. During these dates we will be focused as a group on taking the dance classes listed (as well as going out together in the evenings, etc.). Carnaval begins on Friday, February 20th. Carnaval activities will be facilitated in Rio based on interest and local events, and are optional in participation. Some of these may incur an additional cost (for example, tickets to the world famous parade at the Sambadrome). Please plan on a combination of free time and organized outings between February 20 and 24th.
Hotel Accommodations/Transportation:Hotel accommodations are based on double occupancy. Participants of the Tour will stay at the Mirador Copacabana, located 3 blocks from the beach in the heart of Copacabana. Reservations at the Mirador are booked from February 14 – 24, 2009. Check it out:

Airfare:Airfare is not included in the price of the Tour. The tour organizers can provide a list of websites and travel agents who may offer lower rates. Participants are welcome to extend their stay but will be responsible for booking their own accommodations beyond February 24th.
Visa/Passport:A visa and valid passport is required for entry into Brazil. Participants are responsible for arranging their own visas, including payment. Please keep in mind that first arrival in Brazil must take place within 90 days from the date the visa was issued in order to validate the visa. For more information, please visit:

Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Of the deposit, $750.00 is non-refundable after November 30th. The total balance of the Tour is due no later than January 14, 2009.
Tour Activities:All activities that take place between February 14 and 19 are included in the official Rio Samba Dance Tour. The package of events cannot be sold individually or modified (i.e. no money will be reimbursed if you cannot participate in a class).
Tour Parameters:The focus of the Rio Samba Dance Tour is dance, percussion and cultural immersion. This will not be a resort experience. Please know that in addition to private van transportation, we will rely on public transportation to get around the city.
